What is Card Parade?

So about 7 months ago, I staked my claim to a web address, cardparade.com.  In the months that have passed, it has sat here stagnant.  It’s not that I haven’t had anything to say.  Infact, I’ve had a lot of things to say.  But honestly, who wants to hear a cranky guy rambling about what annoys him or his thoughts on a news story about “the hobby”?

Over those 7 months I’ve asked myself, what is it that can set this website apart from all the other “blogs” out there?  I think I finally came to an answer.  There are plenty of sites that will give you checklists, plenty of sites that will show you pictures, even sites that will let you watch people open boxes upon boxes upon boxes upon…   well, you get the idea.

But what there isn’t is one site that will attempt to review different sets of sports cards using different criteria including card design, box configuration, the value of what you get in the box, and even the collectability of the set.  While this isn’t a finished list, I want to create a 5-star system that will give a score to different sets by averaging the criteria.

Over the next couple weeks I’ll begin finishing the list of criteria used to score these sets. My goal is to rate products new and old and from multiple price ranges, such that we can get a nice cross section of different products.  I want to cover a wide range of products so that readers and collectors of all kinds will have something to look forward to.

I also hope to follow the latest news and postings from all the major sports card producers and perhaps start a discussion why something is good or bad, or how it hurts or helps the hobby.  I feel like community is important when you’re trying to build something like this, and my hope that is people don’t feel shy to share their thoughts and opinions.

It’s going to be a lot of work rating all these sets, and surely I won’t get to every single one.  I will probably concentrate on football and hockey to start, since their new 2017-18 seasons will be starting within a few months.  Any products that are missed upon release will be reviewed at some point.  The end goal will be to create a comprehensive rating list for all sets in all years.  I would love for everyone else to come along for the ride and share their opinions on each set as well.

This endeavor is going to be a lot of work.  I hope you all will come along with me on the ride!’

Happy collecting!

Welcome to the Sports Card Parade!

Welcome to the Sports Card Parade.

We are a new blog dedicated to “the hobby” of sports cards and memorabilia collecting.  For many of us, our passion started when we were kids, but has continued into our adulthood.  Gone are the days where we would ask our parents to let us spend our allowance on a pack of 25 cent cards with the unchewable bubble gum.  Today, we go out into the world ourselves to seek high end collectibles to display in our offices and living areas.

This blog is dedicated to those of us who are looking for one central place to monitor the trends and changes in the hobby we chose to love, sports card and memorabilia collecting.
